The colors and coat types of rabbits are subject to several genes series and modifiers within the genetic makeup of that rabbit.  Each common gene series involves two copies of a gene, one inherited from each parent.

 

Or more easily said: A rabbit's parents determine the outcome of that rabbit's color and coat.
